The Terror of Trinton Town is an encounter that is intended to completely subvert expectations. Players will hear about a vicious beast that has been assaulting the town and scaring the people, but in reality it is a werebear who wants nothing more than to help out.
Teddy is a very straight forward fight - he will first try to deter opponents by using Bestial Roar. Barring that, he will engage in combat, letting out vicious strikes.
Make good use of Thank You Beary Much as well, it will keep the players on their toes.
This encounter is intended as a fight only as a last ditch effort.
Teddy is a very friendly bear, who will help any and everyone he can. He doesn't always understand social situations well, so he inadvertently scares people with his methods. If he notices a roof that needs fixing, he'll just set out and do it, not realizing he should first ask the family inside if they want it fixed. They'll just suddenly have a werebear tearing their roof off.
While he does only want to help, if he's backed into a corner he will fight back. He'll do what he can to de-escalate the situation, but if that fails he will defend himself. If someone DOES attempt to threaten Janelle, the little girl in town who summoned him and is his best friend, he will put them down without hesitation.
Have you ever wondered what happens when a child gets ahold of a genie's wish? The endless limits a wish has, would they ask for infinite candy? For the day to stretch onward and onward? For Mom and Dad to live forever? Or for their friends to always be available to play with them?
What if they wished for their teddy bear to come to life?
That was the case with Janelle. In the sleepy village of Mahet, Janelle was digging. She loved digging for buried treasure. She had so many on display in her room - a spoon, buried so long it had gained a patina. A little knife that had the initials T.R.P. on it. A coin from a civilization long past. But today, she stumbled on something magical. Quite literally.
A ring, rather unassuming, with silver stringing around the center. She took it home, and went to bed that night. She dreamt of endless possibilities, whatever she wanted she could have. But, she only wanted one thing - for her teddy to come to life.
The next day she woke up, more refreshed than she ever felt...and there was Teddy. Fully alive and well. She was OVERJOYED. She and Teddy set out to play for hours. Hours stretched to days. She took breaks of course, she needed to eat, drink, and sleep, and Teddy needed to catch his breath.
Teddy had to stay in the woods, the few interactions he had with people in town didn't end well. People immediately grabbed weapons and set towards Teddy, ready to drive him away.
One day, Janelle was heading towards Teddy and got attacked. A wolf darted out, expecting easy prey. Janelle let out a scream, tried to run away but the wolf caught up. Then, suddenly...Teddy was there. And then the wolf wasn't.
Teddy doesn't want to be violent, but he has to protect Janelle. At all costs. This, unfortunately, led to the event. One day, Janelle was getting bullied by an older girl. They argued, and argued, until eventually the older girl pushed Janelle. She fell to the ground. Hard. She started crying, her pain consuming her mind briefly. When she snapped out of it, she hear sobbing and screaming. Only...it was coming from the girls around her. He didn't do anything drastic, but Teddy showed up and scared the older girl senseless.
The townsfolk had had enough at this point, and wanted Teddy gone. So, at Janelle's request...he did. He wandered through the woods for a bit, and finally settled near Trinton Town. He doesn't understand why he had to leave, and doesn't understand why the people of Trinton Town are scared of him. But that won't stop him from trying to help.
The right music helps set the tone amazingly. In my opinion, The Terror of Trinton Town should have a fun, chaotic song. Dummy! from Undertale is excellent for this, it's a bit intense but extremely wild at the same time.
