The Council of the Black Bead

Level 14

The Council of the Black Bead is an encounter designed to be more than a bit of an homage to the Turtles from TMNT. The Council of the Black Bead monks value their ability to counter their opponents, often times focusing solely on combating martial opponents or magical ones.

Black Bead monks are generally nonviolent, but if they sense that there is no other recourse they are adept fighters. Their fighting style focuses around denial - they deny their opponents sight and the ability to perform various tasks they are used to being able to do. Make good use of the Darkness ability to position the four monks well.

Black Bead monks are not materialistic in any way shape or form - they believe material possessions get in the way of enlightenment. Believing even that seeing material possessions will tempt them, they train themselves out of the notion of sight.

Black Bead monks are extremely proud, and extremely decisive. They are often called upon to be arbiters of disputes, being completely impartial and choosing what is often seen as the fairest outcome. Each monk may have their own unique quirks, but that is generally how they are seen.

The Black Bead monks are often seen as good entities so the question becomes - why would you fight them? Well, maybe you don't.
Maybe you're set after them by a corrupt Lord, claiming the Black Bead monks are harassing him. A bounty has been placed on their heads and you're here to collect, only to find the situation not quite what you thought.
Maybe they're in the Court of Carnage, capture by Sliver's people and forced to compete.

Or maybe they're just...bad guy. You're fighting them because they're in the wrong and you need to stop them before they stir up more trouble.
The right music helps set the tone amazingly. The Council are powerful opponents, and should have an intense, measured song to show that. On the Champes-Desoles from The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine does that job well.
